Emotion Transition Cards

Our Emotion Transition Cards give children a visual way to recognize big feelings and move through them-especially when life is shifting from one activity to another. Transitions can be hard; these cards help make them feel safer and more predictable.
Each card combines a simple emotion face (happy, sad, mad, scared, worried, excited, and more) with a short phrase and a calming action or support. For example, a card might show a child looking upset paired with "I feel mad. Let's take a breath," or a worried face paired with "I feel nervous. Grown-up stays close." This helps children link what they feel in their body with words and a next step.
Use the cards before, during, or after transitions like leaving the park, turning off screens, going to bed, or arriving at school. You might show an emotion card, name what you notice, and then offer a transition card that shows what is coming next. Over time, kids learn that feelings are allowed-and that there are safe, consistent ways to move forward.
Printed on durable, wipeable material, these visual supports work well at home, in classrooms, and during counseling or early intervention sessions. They are especially supportive for children who have a hard time with change, are building language, or are learning emotional regulation skills.
With these emotion transition cards, you are not just getting through the moment-you are teaching lifelong tools for noticing feelings, seeking support, and handling transitions with more confidence.
